Pero un buen día unas máquinas manejadas por el hombre empiezan a arrancar árboles, sin tener en cuenta el daño que le estaban causando al medio ambiente. Algunas de las aves que anidaban en esos árboles nunca podrán volver a su hogar porque ha quedado destrozado. Amy, un buen día, paseando entre los árboles talados, encuentra un nido con huevos de gansos salvajes, sus madres han huido, porque ya no tienen donde anidar. Los pobres gansitos morirían sino es por Amy, que decide recogerlos y llevarlos a su casa. Cuando eclosionan los huevos, los polluelos lo primero que ven es a Amy, por lo que piensan que ella es su madre. Amy adopta a los pequeños animalitos, sin saber los problemas que le causarán y la apasionante aventura que vivirá para salvarlos cuando llegue el duro invierno porque tendrá que enseñarlos a volar y guiarlos hacia el sur para su migración.
