Palma of Mallorca prohibit circuses with wild animal
Monday, 26 July 2010 11:37
We commend the decision of the City of Palma, today July 26 declared the city free of circus animals, and invites those who wish to join our work to continue to get more cities to be declared free of animal circuses. Full Palma City Council approved on Monday, with votes for the mayors of PSIB, Bloc Unió per Palma Mallorca (UM) and against the popular group, do not allow installation of wild animals in circuses or other temporary events in the city. Bloc spokesman per Palma, Eberhard Grosske, defended the proposal to declare Palma city free of such circus grounds that it is necessary "can conquer spaces in harmony and respect between people and animals."
The mayor of the popular group has expressed Catalina Terrassa contrary to the opinion that the proposed legislation in Palma and protects animals and noted that what is needed is "to respect the law in force" and not further action .
According Terrassa, autonomic Law 1 / 1992 to protect the animals that live in the human environment "prohibits abuse, have animals in poor conditions, violating free inconvenience to them and require sanitation."
Grosske has responded to respect that "is not true that existing legislation protects what is happening in circuses and practice it notes."
"Circuses have continued to live here with a format absolutely the past and meets the new values that should govern the relationship with animals," has criticized Grosske, who has stressed the need to "evolve" and prohibit these shows held in Palma.
The mayor of UM Llorenç Palmer has defended the vote of their training on the grounds that "the current law does not reflect reality."
Palmer noted that wild animals should be removed from the circus as "an aberration" when researchers have shown that certain species do not survive indoors or under certain conditions.
The proposal adopted today is the city of Palma is declared "contrary to the exhibition of wild animals in circuses" and also calls on Parliament to amend the Law on Protection of Animals that live in the human environment in the sense motion passed today .
The plenum also urged the municipal government to use all the means at its disposal to further ensure compliance with current regulations for the protection of animals.
The adoption of the declaration of Palma as a city without a circus of wild animals has been received with tears by a score of AnimaNaturalis association activists who have come to the right to claim with banners and posters to adopt this standard.
AnimaNaturalis takes many months of hard work in Palma, raising awareness about the cruelty that contain animal circuses, and talking and raising awareness among politicians about the importance of legislating on this subject, because animals were not born free to be locked in a circus. Therefore, we commend the decision of the City of Palma, and invite those who wish to join our work to continue to get more cities are declared free of circuses with animals!
